More to know about our Birdie® 2.0 + Zehnder Hygiene Filter Set
Combine a CO₂ monitor with a high-quality filter set
See when your home needs more fresh air and help keep the incoming air clean. Birdie monitors CO₂ levels and drops when it is time to increase your ventilation. At the same time the Zehnder Hygiene Filter Set filters small particles from the incoming outdoor air and protects you and your ComfoAir Q or E ventilation unit.
1. What is Birdie?
Birdie is a friendly reminder that makes changes in your indoor air quality visible. Inspired by the canaries that once warned miners of unsafe air, Birdie keeps an eye on the CO₂ level in your home. When CO₂ levels become too high, Birdie drops, gently nudging you to take action by opening a window or increasing the ventilation level of your Zehnder system.
2. Do I need a ventilation system to use Birdie?
No. Birdie works in any home. If you have a Zehnder ventilation system, Birdie gently nudges you when CO₂ levels rise, helping you understand how your indoor air quality changes throughout the day and how your ventilation system is performing.
3. How accurate are Birdie's measurements?
Birdie measures the CO₂ level in your home every 10 minutes. Rather than displaying a numerical measurement, Birdie provides a simple visual signal when CO₂ levels become too high.
If you would also like to monitor other indoor air quality parameters, such as humidity and fine particulate matter (PM), take a look at the Airdentifier. It provides more comprehensive indoor air quality monitoring and detailed insights.

4. Birdie tells me to open a window. Does this also apply if I have a Zehnder ventilation system?
Not always. A balanced ventilation system is designed to continuously provide fresh outdoor air and, in many cases, will automatically restore indoor air to CO₂ levels below approximately 1,000 ppm.
Temporary peaks can still occur, for example when you have several guests or spend a long time with multiple people in a small room.
You are always free to open a window. During very hot or cold weather, however, it is usually more comfortable and energy efficient to let your ventilation system restore healthy indoor air quality.
If Birdie regularly drops, your ventilation system may need adjustment or maintenance.
5. What should I do if Birdie indicates poor indoor air quality despite having a ventilation system?
Start by checking whether Birdie’s warning is temporary or occurs regularly.
If it is a temporary peak:
- Increase the ventilation level or briefly open the windows.
- Allow the ventilation system time to restore healthy indoor air quality.
If it happens frequently:
- Check that your ventilation system is switched on.
- Replace dirty filters.
- Check that supply and extract air valves are not blocked.
- In case you notice a pattern: Make it a habit to increase your ventilation manually or set a ventilation schedule via your app or on the display of your ventilation unit.
- Arrange maintenance if your system has not been serviced recently.
- If the issue persists, your ventilation system may need to be recommissioned or adjusted by a professional.
6. Where should I place Birdie?
Place Birdie in a room where you spend a lot of time, such as the living room or home office. Avoid placing it directly next to a window, door or air valve, as this may influence the measurements.
7. Which colours are available?
You can buy Birdie via the Zehnder webshop in the colours yellow, glacier, and wood edition.
